BACKGROUND TO TEAM SELECTION

Buckinghamshire Schools is Class B County (based on County Student populations) so FORTY ( 40 ) is the maximum number of athletes who may be selected to compete in the English Schools Athletics Championships. This number must cover Junior (Years 8 & 9), Inter (Years 10 & 11) and Senior (Years 12 & 13). This also covers both male and female athletes and all events.

We may choose a maximum of 3 athletes per event but usually we will not have any athletes in most events ( similar to all other Counties).

Athletes may qualify in more than one event, but they may only be selected to compete in ONE individual event at the Championships. Some athletes may be selected for any relay teams which the Team Management may enter once the composition of the full squad is known. Only athletes already selected for individual events can be considered for relays.

There are strict rules covering substitutions which can only be done on a like event for like event basis. So very few reserves can be included and none will travel unless an athlete withdraws before departure.

ELIGIBLE ATHLETES
-
Athletes in the Junior and Inter Age Groups MUST compete in the Bucks AA Champs in that year. However. they do not have to compete in the event in which they wish to be selected.
-

-
SENIOR (Year 12& 13) Athletes must apply online and fulfil all of the criteria by June 15th 2025, the same as all other age groups.
-

-
All athletes must be in good health and injury free. Hence competition records in the weeks immediately prior to selection date will be reviewed and athletes recovering from injury must keep the Team Management informed of their progress. Recovering athletes will be considered subject to satisfactory medical reports. NOTE: places on this team are in great demand and we want to ensure we can field the strongest possible County represntation

Usually, only athletes with the Qualification mark will be considered. Even if an athlete has a Qualification standard that does not guarantee selection.

If more than 40 Athletes submit performances better than the ESAA QS
-
Selection Priority will be given to athletes with National Standards
-
Ranking of Performance against QS
-
Then: Probability of making Finals or Top 8 in each event based on how much they are inside the standard
-
Then: % England Ranking on the Power of 10. Note: events with a higher number of athletes inside P of 10 standard will weight higher than those with fewer athletes.
-

If 40 athletes do not reach the standard,
then those who are very close misses will be considered (usually lees than 3%). Again, the selection will be based on the back up procedure above.
